At Kindergarten children play and
explore in a carefully planned environment providing child-centred
material and equipment which they can use in open-ended experiences
such as playdough, block building, sand play, messy play, etc.
The curriculum provides periods of uninterrupted play and exploration, allowing children to investigate and extend experiences.
It reflects the diversity of children
and their families.
The curriculum is emergent, following and leading the children’s interests and needs.
It fosters the holistic development
of children, considering their intellectual, emotional, social
and physical growth.
Social and emotional development: Children learn to interact with other children and adults. They learn to share equipment and play co-operatively. They learn to express their needs in a positive way.
Physical Development: Children
will have opportunities to practice and learn new skills on
outdoor equipment, and to develop fine motor skills through
play experiences such as painting, playdough and cutting.
Language Development: Experiences are provided to help children develop their communication skills, as well as developing confidence in speaking in small and large groups.
Cognitive (Intellectual) Development:
Play is a vital learning tool to young children. Each experience
provided has a value for the children. They are learning and
discovering while they play. For instance, while playing with
the blocks the children learn mathematical concepts such as
number, balance, weight and shape, etc.
Creativity: A large range of dramatic props and art materials are provided for imaginative use. The children are encouraged to express their ideas and knowledge through art, music, drama, movement and speech.
