Assessment
is based primarily on observations of the children. All
children are observed regularly to gain information about their
progress in different areas of their development. These include
social, emotional, language, fine motor, gross motor and cognitive
skills and abilities. This assists the teacher in determining
what experiences and activities to plan for the children. Activities
are based on the children’s needs, interests and abilities.
They are also planned to assist children in learning certain
skills, to strengthen certain areas of development and to challenge
children.
We use
a variety of observation methods. These include anecdotal
records, running records, checklists, sociograms, photos and
copies of the children’s artwork.
Parents are able to access their child’s records at all times. If parents have any concerns about their child, please make an appointment with the teacher to discuss your child’s progress. An opportunity for a formal interview is available towards the end of term 2.
